Very atomic

This is going to make an appearance in the Century of Cinema “project”, but I’m posting this poster now cos the fellow running that project on Bluesky just posted it cos it was part of his own viewing… I’ve seen this but probably not for a couple of decades, and I do recall it being more than a little mad (plus I remain baffled that Stanley Kramer produced this, given what his ensuing directorial career would be like). As one of the subsequent commenters said, it’s that rare poster which actually makes a film look less interesting than it is, and that seems about right. So yeah, you can probably expect this to appear here in more detail soon…

Australia dodges a bullet

This comes from some podcast or other where Joe Rogaine was talking about how he was considering moving to Australia but our approach to Covid-19 put him off. You know, our approach to the pandemic that meant our death rate from it was vastly less than that of the US because we at least had state governments (if not always a federal one—remember Scunt telling us to go to the cricket?) that actually took it seriously as opposed to, you know, recommending bleach. And this, apparently, is all because we don’t have America’s gun psychosis here. Of course, you know the other thing that happens when people don’t have guns? As a general rule, THEY FUCKING LIVE. A lot fewer of us died of Covid, and a lot fewer of us die from gun violence too. Kids don’t need to go through fucking shooter drills. Parents don’t need to worry to the same extent if their kids will come home at the end of the school day. We’re a country with flaws but, really, we have our good selling points over the US… and one of those selling points is that this stupid cunt doesn’t live here.
