This is it. I don’t see how music can go any further.

(because in 2026 what the Internet STILL really needs is a blog by a 50-something white man)
This is it. I don’t see how music can go any further.

…And then there’s screaming it at the top of your fucking lungs:

OOF. That’s apparently the latest front page of The Irish Light, which is the Ireland version of this thing:
The Light is a self-published, monthly British conspiracy theory newspaper founded by Darren Nesbitt (frequently under the pseudonym Darren Smith) on 27 September 2020, which claims the COVID-19 pandemic was a hoax. The paper has a sister publication named The Irish Light.
The paper has been criticised for spreading COVID-19 misinformation, antisemitic conspiracy theories and Holocaust denial. It regularly prints articles written by conspiracy theorist Vernon Coleman, and according to a review from Harvard Kennedy School “includes content that is aimed at prompting participation and activism amongst adherents of conspiracy theories, rather than simply presenting information”.
The company behind the paper was dissolved on 15 February 2021; despite this, it still continues to publish. […]
In November 2022, The Irish Light ran a headline with the phrase ‘Died Suddenly’ connected to marketing efforts around the release of an independent anti-vaccine film of the same name. In this issue, the paper used the images of 42 deceased individuals, claiming they had died suddenly in Ireland due to being vaccinated. Upon investigation, none of the deaths were found to be due to vaccines and were instead found to be caused by incidents such as drowning, long-term illness, car accidents and other random events.
Well I’m sure those car accidents would never have happened WITHOUT the vaccine… you can’t quite read the other headlines cos I shrunk the image down, but they go like this:
NEWS Muhammed tops baby names in Galway
LGBT MAFIA Irish libraries push pornography on children
VACCINE CULL Kilkenny sudden deaths fall of deaf ears
HEALTH Healing cancer naturally without poisonous chemo
Urlacan!
Mind you, I’ll give this Nesbitt/Smith character some credit for actually doing this as a print publication in this modern age where most dickheads of his ilk would just do this sort of thing on Gab or something. I suppose this just goes to show what a special dickhead he is…
In the wake of the latest US school shooting, self-described theocratic fascist Matt Walsh actually got it kind of right:

I for one couldn’t agree more. There is a demonic evil in the US, and it’s made up of the NRA, the politicians who’ve sold their souls to them, and America’s general psychotic gun culture… oh, wait, that’s not what Matt meant? Of course not, this is Matt Walsh we’re talking about, a man who hates… well, pretty much everything the Daily Wire will pay him to hate (he had a recent headscratcher of a video about asexuality, which is one of those things that I just don’t understand why some people find so objectionable), but he has a particular hard-on for transphobia. And, by all indications, the shooter this time was a trans person. So when Matt Walsh talks about demonic evil, he’s not talking about the gun that ended the lives of those kids and their teachers, he’s talking about the trans person wielding the gun. An entire piece of shit. I don’t wish death upon people as a rule, but Matt Walsh is on record saying he would rather kill himself than be the parent of a trans child, and frankly I want one of his kids to turn out trans just to see whether or not he carries that out…
Oh THAT’ll work.
Radio station KIIS FM has had to employ a second censor and provide sensitivity training to Kyle Sandilands after the shock jock described watching the Tokyo Paralympics as “horrific”. […]
The latest breach follows an incident in October when Sandilands, who reportedly earns $5m a year, and ARN apologised for using a slur against people with disability.
“Have you been watching the special Olympics (sic), it is horrific some of the things,” Sandilands said live on air.
“Some poor bloke ran for the high jump and then veered right ’cause he was blind and landed on his arse on the ground.”
The report found that while the presenters expressed some admiration for the “spirit of the contest”, it would have been clear to the audience that “the Paralympians in question were being mocked by Mr Sandilands, and that they were mocked for the techniques used to participate and compete in their particular sport”.Sandilands implied that participants in the Paralympics were “a generic group of people that were somehow intrinsically inferior and were in need of special treatment or ‘lifting up’”, the report found. […]
Sandilands has been a divisive figure in Australian media for decades. Thirteen years ago he was dropped by Australian Idol (then on Channel Ten) after a public backlash over a lie-detector stunt on his radio show in which a 14-year-old girl revealed she had been raped. Both Sandilands and his co-host apologised on air at the time, saying they did not know the girl had been raped.
Although Sandilands apologised in October for “using filthy language and some derogatory archaic terms”, he said: “I’m never going to change. I’m still not changing [for] the woke world.”
I don’t know how Vile’s whole career didn’t end after that debacle with the 14 year old girl. All that’ll come out of this “sensitivity training” is a bunch of shitty jokes for content on his show before he goes on being a cunt as usual.

What a world I have survived into where the British PM is Hindu and the new leader of the Scottish National Party is Muslim. My Scottish parents would be so confused and fairly unhappy if they were still here.

A picture from 1952, I’m told. I must say that’s a slightly… ominous and strange slogan with which to advertise electronic goods. At least I suppose the programming available in 1952 probably wouldn’t make you want to leave the world in the way it does now…
The downside (OK, maybe that’s a bit harsh; Amy’s pretty great really) of having a friend who’s very left-wing but otherwise a good Catholic is that, when she bites back at some idiot on Twitter, I am thereby exposed to that idiot when I otherwise might not have been. There’s so many idiots I already can’t avoid cos everyone talks about them (hi Elon), but my friends all have their own specialty idiots on top of those. And oy but this one was a particular goon…

I don’t know much or indeed anything about Thomas Merton other than him being a prominent Catholic of decades past, and as an avowed non-Catholic (or indeed religionist of any sort) I consider his “heresy” meaningless. That said, I understand where Michelle’s coming from; after all, any time I see a major religious figure realising that people are good, even the ones from other religions, and that social justice is actually a better thing than social injustice, the first thing I want to do is puke vehemently over their grave. Common fucking decency towards other people, even the ones who aren’t like you, what an appalling thing…
No, really.

I had to take a screenshot of the page to believe it. But yes, Ed Sheeran is working with Cradle of Filth. That was EXACTLY the surrealism I was needing to start my Sunday…
Now election day does tend to bring out some cranks, and even in Maroubra/Kingsford-Smith we tend to get them. This time round, we got these clowns:

Never heard of them before now but they have evidently been around for a few years. Quoth Wiki:
The Informed Medical Options Party (formerly known as the Involuntary Medication Objectors (Vaccination/Flu…oride) Party) is an Australian political party. The party’s policies oppose compulsory vaccination programs and water fluoridation. The Party states that these are “mass-medication programs” where there is “genuine scientific uncertainty about the benefits and risks in a genetically diverse population”. Australian Medical Association president Tony Bartone said the party’s views “lack the backing of scientific evidence” and that its members “should consider the harm that can ensue upon the Australian community”. It was registered for federal elections on 26 October 2016.
Party secretary Michael O’Neill said the “anti-vaxxer” label regularly used by critics was “insulting”.
Well if you don’t want to be called anti-vaxxers… maybe don’t be opposed to vaccination? I know they insist they’re only really opposed to compulsory vaccination schemes like the Covid program, but I feel that if you expressed an active interest in getting the Covid vaccine and actively wanted it, they would try and talk you out of it. Indeed, when the Covid thing was kicking off in 2020, one of their candidates made a misinformation video on the subject (claiming you can’t catch a virus unless it’s injected right into your bloodstream, which will come as news to BILLIONS of people who’ve ever had the common cold) which wound up being banned from Youtube and Facebook; before it vanished from the latter, it wound up being shared by people like anti-5G mobs and the crypto-Nazis at Reclaim Australia. Great friends to have…
So, state election day today. It appears that not only has Labor won (Dominic Perrottet has called Chris Minns to concede), it has positively conquered… last time they won an election in NSW they did so by just one seat, whereas if current figures hold they’ll do by about 20 if not more. I took this screenshot just before 10pm from the ABC website:

I’m genuinely astounded by this. I mean, I thought Labor was actually in with a chance for once but that they would still face a challenge from the Coalition and that the latter might still scrape through… but no, Labor is romping home and they’ve taken a bunch of seats from the blue mob to boot. I’m actually kind of shocked by how comparatively poorly the Coalition did. That said, apparently there were over a million and a half postal votes so I suppose that may affect the final numbers… but I don’t suppose there’ll be anywhere near enough to overturn the evident result of tonight, might narrow the margins a bit.
That said, I have seen some commentary online that this was really a vote against the Libs and not for Labor, and I think that’s not entirely wrong…

Quite. The NSW ALP has been coasting for a long time by keeping its head down and not being the Coalition, and that’s not going to be enough any more. They’ve succeeded in reminding us that they exist (with our media being what it is, it was easy to forget for some years there than the ALP was actually still a thing in NSW), now they need to actually BE something. Ball’s in your court, Christopher, please don’t fuck this up.
Anyway, even funnier than the Coalition being given its marching orders is this delightful screenshot I found on Facebook of the Sky “News” coverage:

…and then this even better closeup on Peta Credlin that I ganked from Twitter:

I feel their pain.
And it is GOOD.
As for ye olde print media, this is what Bevan Shields from the Sydney Morning Herald said before the big day (thanks to Terry Sedgwick for catching and annotating this):

I imagine that Bevan is busy wailing and gnashing his teeth right now, and furiously hammering away at his word processor to lecture us on how we all got that ultimate decision terribly, terribly wrong.
